Main areas of interest
My two main sub specialist areas are anaesthesia for all types of surgery on children and for gynaecological surgery. I also work with surgeons for general and orthopaedic surgery.

Research interest
I have an interest in the applied physiology of oxygen therapy especially during the early phases of anaesthesia. I have supervised a BMedSci student annually studying in this field or doing audits in aspects of paediatric anaesthesia such as post operative pain control.
Teaching interest
I am responsible for the organisation and delivery of education to our novice trainee anaesthetists in Southampton. This includes practical in-theatre training, classroom education and using high fidelity simulators.
Within my paediatric and neonatal subspecialty I teach basic and advanced anaesthesia techniques to registrar anaesthetists.

Biography
I spent my early medical career at Birmingham University and then in Hospitals in the Midlands before heading to Southampton for Registrar training. I had further advanced training in several leading teaching centres abroad in Singapore, Melbourne and Michigan before taking up a consultant post in Reading, Berkshire in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. I returned to Southampton in 1997 as a Consultant Anaesthetist with a paediatric specialist interest.
My sporting interests include going up and down hills and mountains on foot, bike and skis. I am a member of Hardley Runners, the Club des Cingles du Mont Ventoux and the British Mountaineering Council.
